Black Canyon Moonrise - Paint by Numbers Kit

A single pale moon hangs low in a narrow band of night sky, pouring silver light down the sheer walls of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The gorge itself is rendered in deep cobalt and midnight blue, its jagged crests catching cool silver-gray highlights while the river below winds through as a dark slate ribbon, catching just enough moonlight to glow.

This is a scene built on contrast and hush: towering rock faces pressing in from both sides, scattered pinyon and juniper clinging to the ledges, and that vast quiet of a canyon at rest under moonlight. Painting it means working through graduated blues and grays layer by layer, watching the cliffs take shape stroke by stroke on a pre-printed numbered canvas until the whole gorge opens up in front of you.

It's a satisfying project for anyone drawn to dramatic Western landscapes or the real, rugged geography of America's national parks, whether you're an experienced painter-by-numbers or just starting out. The included set of paint brushes and numbered reference sheet make it easy to follow the moon's glow all the way down to the river.

Bring this quiet, moonlit corner of Colorado home, and let the canyon walls rise on your own wall.
